This holiday season we are reminded not only of the needs of those in our community who are struggling to get by, but also of the generosity of our Fort Bend neighbors. Last month we made an appeal to the community to help stock the empty shelves in the food pantry. We are humbled by the tremendous outpour of support through financial contributions and food donations. Local schools, churches, businesses, civic organizations and individuals throughout our community have stepped up to make sure families in Fort Bend County have enough food to eat during this holiday season.
We reached our goal of serving 350 families through our Thanksgiving Food Program. The food given out for Thanksgiving helped to feed 1,213 Fort Bend residents. Over half of those served were children and senior citizens on a fixed income.
To help Fort Bend families in time for Christmas, we plan to distribute 400 bags of holiday groceries at the end of this month. This will provide meals for nearly 2,000 people.
The care and compassion shown by so many in the Fort Bend community helps us ensure that families in financial crisis have a place to turn for the basic necessities of life - food and shelter. We continue to see an increase in the number of families needing our assistance and are currently serving over 3,000 individuals each month. Due to the current economic climate, we anticipate the need for services provided by East Fort Bend Human Needs Ministry to grow as we enter 2012. I want to thank you for the support you have shown us during our times of need and ask that you please consider making a year-end gift to help us provide for the influx of needy families who will approach us in the new year.
On behalf of the Board of Directors and Staff of East Fort Bend Human Needs Ministry, I would like to wish everyone a
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Blessings to all,
Vickie Coates
Executive Director
