The
Interfaith Food Pantry opened in 1983 to respond to the needs of a
rapidly-growing Fort Bend County, Texas. Fort Bend County continues to
rank among the most affluent counties in Texas, yet hunger and financial
need are growing even faster. The work of the Food Pantry is the story
of people reaching out to help others in need.
Clients
Food Pantry services are provided to families and individuals living
in east Fort Bend County. Referrals may come from area congregations or
local social service agencies. Clients are seen on a first come, first
served basis. Trained interviewers assess each situation to determine
the how they can best be served. Each nutritionally complete food order
is tailored to the size and any special needs of each household. Food
Pantry assistance is limited to a specific number of orders per year.
Volunteers
Volunteers are the lifeblood of the Food Pantry and EFBHNM. Last
year almost 15,000
Volunteer Hours were given to the Resale Shop, and the Food Pantry &
Financial Assistance programs. Volunteers come from all walks of life
and from throughout Fort Bend Country. Many of the volunteers are
members of the local congregations that are ongoing supporters of the EFBHNM.
