Types of Volunteer Opportunities:

Volunteers are an integral part of East Fort Bend Human Needs Ministry. Each month hundreds of volunteers donate their time and talents to help our community. Listed below are some of the many volunteer positions at EFBHNM.

Food Pantry:

  • Preparing and giving food orders to clients
  • Sorting & restocking donations
  • Interviewing clients
  • Donation pick-ups from area grocery stores and restaurants

Tri-City Churches Resale Shop:

  • Sorting donations
  • Helping customers
  • Organizing/cleaning shop

Other Ministry Programs:

  • Financial Assistance
  • Food Fairs (4th Thursday of the month)
  • Special events (i.e. holiday baskets, school supplies drive)
  • Annual Empty Bowls fundraiser
  • Administrative tasks (reception, data entry, other clerical)


Current Volunteer Needs & Opportunities:

Listed below are the volunteer positions available for individuals to fill as soon as possible. Please note that our volunteer opportunities are always changing. If our current needs do not work with your availability, please check back in a few weeks for new opportunities!

Food Pantry/Ministry:

  • Pantry Helper: responsible for bagging food items and carrying items to clients’ cars
    • Every Other Friday from 10:00am-1:30pm
    • Every Other Wednesday from 6:00pm-8:00pm
  • Warehouse Helper: responsible for compiling Kids Sacks
    • Wednesdays from 9:30am-12:30pm
  • Screener: responsible for interviewing clients and recording information into a digital database
    • Wednesdays from 6:00pm-8:00pm
  • Financial Assistance Screener: responsible for interviewing clients and recording information into a digital database
    • Wednesdays (approx. 2/month) from 8:45am-12:30pm

Resale Shop:

  • Price Tagging, Donation Sorting and/or Customer Assistance:
    • Monday-Saturday from 10am-4pm (for any amount of time, on any day during that time-frame)


How to Volunteer:

Prior to serving at our ministry, all individual volunteers are required to attend one Volunteer Orientation and complete a Volunteer Application. At the orientation, you will learn about our ministry and go on a tour of our facilities. Throughout the orientation we will also discuss our current volunteer opportunities (as mentioned in the section above) to see which available positions best fit your interests and availability. Please note individual volunteers must be high school age or older.

 Booking a Group:

For one-time group inquiries, please contact the Volunteer Coordinator, Jordan Keyes, at jordan@humanneeds.org. Please note:

  • Group members must be at least 10 years of age
  • Groups are typically smaller than 15 people
  • Group opportunities at the food pantry occur Monday – Friday (small groups may be accepted on Saturdays at the resale shop)
  • Groups do not need to complete the orientation or application. Members must sign a group release waiver in advance or upon arrival.
