How to Volunteer (Individuals):

1) For a quick sign-up to volunteer at our resale shop, please click the link(s) below. Please note volunteers must be high school age or older.

2) To volunteer on a consistent basis in the other areas of our ministry, we ask all individual volunteers to: sign up below to attend one Volunteer Orientation and complete a Volunteer Application. At the orientation, you will learn about our ministry and go on a tour of our facilities. Please note individual volunteers must be college age or older to volunteer at the food pantry/warehouse. For court-appointed community service, you must instead call 281-499-8833 and ask to speak to Shay.


Hours of Operation: The food pantry is open to clients on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 10am-12pm and on Wednesdays (only twice/month) from 6pm-8pm. The warehouse is open Monday – Friday from 8am-3pm. The resale shop is open Tuesday – Saturday from 10am-4pm.

How to Volunteer (Groups):

Our group opportunities right now are very limited due to COVID-19 and we have changed some of our procedures. For group inquiries, email jordan@humanneeds.org. Please note:

  • Group members must be in high school or above
  • Groups are typically capped around 10 people
  • Group opportunities at the food pantry occur Monday – Friday during business hours
  • Groups do not need to complete the orientation or application. Members must sign a group release waiver in advance or upon arrival.


Current Volunteer Needs:

Food Pantry/Warehouse:

  • Assistant Warehouse Food Processor: responsible for receiving, sorting, recording, and weighing daily donations from stores; someone who is detail-oriented would be ideal
    • Thursdays from 8:30am-12:30pm
  • Screener: responsible for interviewing clients and recording information on a digital database
    • Tuesdays or Fridays from 9:30am-1:00pm
  • Warehouse Lifter: responsible for lifting boxes in the warehouse; someone who can lift between 30-50 pounds and can lift above shoulders
    • Mondays sometime between 8:30am-2pm (we are flexible on timing)
  • Spanish Translator: responsible for assisting clients with Spanish/English translation as needed
    • Tuesdays, Thursdays, and/or Fridays from 9:30am-1:00pm
  • Food Pantry Helper: responsible for placing food items into bags and/or shopping carts for clients
    • Every Other Friday from 9:30am-12:30pm
  • Warehouse Helper: responsible for assisting in a wide variety of tasks in the food pantry’s warehouse that will change on a weekly basis
    • Monday – Friday from 8:30am-3:00pm (exact day/time can be discussed at orientation)


Resale Shop:

  • Resale Shop Processing Volunteer: responsible for processing the donations at the resale shop upon receiving
    • Any day Tuesday – Friday for any amount of time between 10am-4pm
  • Resale Shop Donation Receiver: responsible for receiving donations upon drop off and/or assisting in other areas as needed.
    • Tuesday or Wednesday for any amount of time between 10am-4pm

Volunteers are an integral part of East Fort Bend Human Needs Ministry! Each month hundreds of volunteers donate their time and talents to help our community. Our volunteer opportunities are always changing. Listed below are some additional positions at EFBHNM.

  • Fundraising: join our Empty Bowls committee
  • Special Events: volunteering at our annual Empty Bowls fundraiser, Outrun Hunger Family 5K Walk & Run,  holiday baskets, school supplies drive, etc.
  • General Ministry: helping with administrative tasks behind-the-scenes such as data entry, etc.
