Volunteers are the heart of our ministry.

Every year thousands of hours are volunteered with East Fort Bend Human Needs Ministry. With a variety of ways to get involved, you are sure to find an opportunity that fits your schedule and interests. Whether it’s the Resale Shop, Food Pantry or another area, we’d love to have you on the team.

TRI-CITY CHURCHES
RESALE SHOP

If you are 16 years of age or older, the Resale Shop is a great place to volunteer and give back to the community.

Potential volunteers who are 16-18 years old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian on the first day of volunteering to sign a release waver.  Casual clothing is acceptable, but it cannot be too revealing or have offensive slogans. Closed-toe shoes must be worn for safety purposes.  

 

INDIVIDUAL VOLUNTEER

We have a variety of areas for you to volunteer on a consistent basis. Here is the process to get started:

  • Complete a Volunteer Application

  • Email it to our Volunteer Coordinator

  • Make an appointment to learn about our ministry and go on a tour of our facilities

Please note: Individual volunteers must be college age or older to volunteer at the food pantry/warehouse.

GROUP VOLUNTEERS

Grab a few friends and come volunteer together.

  • All members in the group must be 16 years or older

  • No more than 2-4 people in a group to volunteer, though occasionally we have a need for up to 10 for our events.

  • Groups do not need to complete the orientation or application. Members must sign a group release waiver in advance or upon arrival.

  • As a group, you can also Host A Food Drive together

Volunteers Opportunities

  • Box Truck Drivers

    Our trucks go out every morning to pick up food from our partner grocery stores and other donation sites. Volunteers not only drive the trucks but also inspect them daily for any issues that may arise.

    The volunteers should be prepared to lift up to 65 pounds.

    Times vary.

  • Spanish Translator

    Responsible for assisting clients with Spanish/English translation as needed in the Food Pantry/Warehouse.

    Tuesdays, Thursdays, and/or Fridays 9:30 am - 1:00 pm

  • Food Pantry Helper

    Responsible for placing food items into bags and/or shopping carts for clients.

    Every Other Friday, 9:30 am - 12:30 pm

  • Warehouse Helper

    Responsible for assisting in a wide variety of tasks in the Food Pantry’s warehouse; will change on a weekly basis.

    Monday - Friday, 8:30 am - 3:00 pm

  • Receptionist

    The receptionist answers phones and takes messages for staff. They will answer the front door during non-pantry hours and answer questions about EFBHNM. The receptionist will assist the Pantry Team with Birthday Bags and various front desk operational tasks.

    Monday - Friday, 9:30 am - 3:00 pm

  • Vegetable Bagger

    Early each distribution morning, volunteers are here to bag fresh produce that will be given to clients throughout the week.

    Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 12:00 pm

  • Date Sorters

    Volunteers will attend two days of training, then can come during regular business hours to help with sorting the individual items that come in from Food Drives, Red Barrels, or donations dropped off at The Food Pantry by Use By date.

    Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 3:00 pm

  • Food Bag Packers

    A team of volunteers sets up food on Friday afternoons in preparation for the following week.

    Every Friday, 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

  • Kids Sacks

    On Tuesday mornings, volunteers will collect items on the pre-determined Menu and organizes them to then be packed by another team Wednesday morning. We typically prepare 150-190 Kids Sacks that supply young children with snacks that require little to no preparation.

    Tuesdays, 9:00 am - 12:00 pm and Wednesdays 8:30 am - 11:00 am
